A Forgotten Video...Now So Precious!

This video sat forgotten in my camera for months. Mom and Dad came up to our place for the traditional turkey with all the fixings. Dad is telling a story to Mikayla. Precious times! Dad was doing so well, and had more energy. We were thankful around our house that Grandpa (Dad) was so much better. If you go back to my November post about being full of thanks, you'll understand what I mean. Thank You, Lord, for more time with our much loved Dad and Grandpa!

Ice Skating

We like to ice skate in the winter when we have the time. This year there has been so much snow that we could never clear a rink on the lakes, so we had to settle for the town's tiny, wee rink. The Town of Lincoln thought it a big deal to buy a backyard sized rink for all the town kids to use. Unfortunately, only about four kids can use it at once because it is so small.

Anyway, Mikayla especially loves to skate, so we bought her a pair of nice skates. Hopefully, she won't grow to much and be able to wear them next year as well. Alana, of course, was able to wear her sisters old ones, but that left Nathanael without any for this year. He said he didn't like to skate anyway, but when we headed off to the rink and all he could do was slide around on his boots, I think he changed his mind. So, we surprised him with new hockey skates for his birthday. It's interesting to me, and just a little frustrating, how boys shoe sizes run, and apparently hockey skates are no different. He seems to be at the size of shoe where he is no longer a boy, but he is also not quite a man either. So I can buy shoes up to size 5, but then it seems to skip to size 7 men's. So what is a kid to do that has a size 6 foot, I ask you?! Well, to make a long post even longer, I looked and looked for skates that were a size 6, and finally had to settle for some that said they would fit a ladies size 7. ( But I didn't tell him that! I did want him to actually use them.) I guess women play hockey quite a bit more than I realized. At least these didn't have any pink on them. Just plain black and white like all hockey skates. They turned out to be a bit big and a bit wide, but we tried filling the space with extra socks, and away he went. All in all, a successful gift.

Happy Birthday, Nathanael!

Nathaneal's birthday was a quiet affair this year because he went to a hockey game with his dad. But we had a good time as a family celebrating at home, too. He picked the kind of cake he wanted and decorated it himself with Star Wars legos, of course! We let him take the day off school and open one gift first thing in the morning. Then, when the girls were done with their schollwork, we had cake and presents. AND...I think he got everything that he wanted. MORE LEGOS!!!
